Ecological hike "Rodnik"

During the summer, Polistovsky Reserve staff organize children's ecological hike "Rodnik" for schoolchildren, aimed at formation and development of the ecological culture among the younger generation, as well as acquainting and involving children to the Reserve's activities.

The hike lasts for one week, when participants live in tents, the hike starts on the scientific base of Polistovsky Reserve in Tsevlo village. During this week, children try themselves in a role of serious scientists: choose a research topic, conduct experiments and observations, and at the end of the expedition make reports at the conference of research projects.

For example, in 2017, members of the expedition studied hydro-biological features of water bodies near Polistovsky Reserve, investigated polypores and some representatives of the flora - children looked for medicinal plants and got acquainted with their features. After the the hike, participants sum up all the materials and make presentations at local and regional scientific and practical conferences.

Also a variety of ecological games, interactive lessons, workshops on making souvenirs and crafts, orienteering and various contests were organised for the children during the expedition.

An important part of the hike is an excursion to the eco-trail "Plavnitskoe bog" and acquaintance with Polistovsky Reserve, and new experience of life in the field.

The organization and general management of the hike is carried out by the administration of the Reserve. All activities and meals during the hike are included in its cost. Number of participants: from 12 to 25 people, including the leaders.
