Lessons «Protected Areas» in the schools of Pskov Region
Employees of Polistovsky Reserve began to conduct lessons "Protected Areas" in the schools of Pskov region. The events are held within the framework of the project "Your land", implemented by the Cross-boder cooperation center «Lake Peipsi project, Pskov» with the support of a grant of the President of the Russian Federation.
Lessons about the territorial system of nature conservation in our country and about the protected areas of Pskov region have already taken place in 4 schools - in Kunya, Usvyaty and Velikiye Luki. Until April, employees of Polistovsky Reserve plan to conduct 16 lessons in 13 districts of the region.
Lessons tell about the 100-year history of Russia's protected areas system, the categories of protected areas (PAs) - National Nature Reserves, National Parks, Sanctuaries and Nature Monuments, and also about what specialists work in the PAs.
Children get acquainted with the federal protected areas of Pskov region - Remdovsky Sanctuary, Sebezhsky National Park and Polistovsky Reserve - in more detail. The story is accompanied by cognitive presentations and videos.
The knowledge gained is fixed during team games. Students identify types of protected areas, correlate Reserves and National Parks with their "living symbols" and even develop a project of their own protected area: describe its natural value, landscapes and inhabitants, and plan the work of the employees of the newly created Reserve, National Park, Sanctuary or Nature Monument.
Visitors to the first Polistovsky Reserve lessons mostly liked watching video from photo-traps and playing cognitive games. As it turned out, information about Russian system of protected areas and the protected areas of Pskov region is already familiar for someone, but new for others, and very intersting - for everyone. The children are pleased to get acquainted with the natural values of Russia and their region, they learn new knowledge well. The pupils of school №13 in Velikiye Luki were so interested in nature conservation that they decided to conduct research and find all Nature Monuments in their city and surroundings.
"Protected Areas" lessons are held within the framework of the project "Your Land". Polistovsky Reserve is a partner of the project and will take part in a number of events during the year. In February, representatives of the Reserve told about the opportunities for cooperation with the region's teachers at the "Winter School" and presented a methodical course "Protected Areas of Russia and Pskov region", in the summer the Reserve will take part in the information campaign "Your land" in Pskov, and in the early autumn an Open Day for teachers will be held in Polistovsky Reserve.
