New winter route is opened in Polistovsky Reserve
A new winter ecological route started work in Polistovsky Reserve. It is held in the cold season on snowmobiles and tells visitors about winter on Polistovsky bogs, history of the bog settlements and work of the Reserve's employees.
The route is accessible for visiting only in winter with a stable snow cover, it passes through the forest and the bog. The length of the route is 30 kilometers, the journey time is about 3,5 hours. On the route you can find traces of many inhabitants of the Reserve, who wintering around the bog - hares, moose, foxes and others. An interesting part of the excursion is a visit to the places where specialists annualy carry out ecological monitoring - they monitor and analyze all changes in the state of the raised bog.
"Yesterday we conducted a test tour with our employees, once again discussed the route thread, visited all the stops, checked the equipment. The route is ready to receive tourists. The first group is planning to visit it next week. There is not much time left till the spring, but we hope that this winter the most active lovers of nature will have some time to visit our new excursion," - says Elena Perova, deputy director of Polistovsky Reserve for environmental education, interpretation and tourism.
In addition to the snowmobile route, in winter Polistovsky Reserve organises the "Snowshoe walk", an excursion for hikers, available in both snowy and snowless periods.
In the spring, excursions to 3 ecological trails and one water route will be reopened in Polistovsky Reserve. Also, regardless of the season, tourists can visit the author's excursions and master classes developed by the residents of the villages adjacent to the Reserve - Tsevlo and Gogolevo.
