"Spring-2017" for the third time gathered young naturalists on the shore of Tsevlo lake.
19 high school students from Bezhanitsky, Loknyansky districts and Novgorod, united by an interest in nature, accompanied by teachers, employees and volunteers of Polistovsky Reserve, went on a campaign. The route of the group passed through the buffer zone of the reserve, the participants of the trip visited the ecotrail "Plavnitskoe bog".
Young researchers had to learn a lot of skills in the field. Specialist of Polistovsky Reserve, Dmitry Valtsev spoke about the differences between the calendar and phenological seasons, the main features on which one could determine the onset of the new season, and explained the significance of the symbols used in keeping the diary of phenological observations. Armed with theoretical knowledge, the guys tried to find natural phenomena in the tent camp district - the markers of the onset of a particular phenological season. Together with the methodologist of the environmental education department Svetlana Nikitina, the children studied the species of polypores on trees in the vicinity of the ecological path "Plavnitskoe bog". With the help of directories, the guys have determined which of the found polypores belong to saprotrophic, and which to parasitic species. It was found out that the saprotrophic tinderboxes (8 species), which are an important link in the ecological chain, predominate in the surveyed area: using nutrients from dead wood, they clean the forest of dead trees. Parasitic polypores in the surveyed area are less common: they were found in 2 species.
Also the children were acquainted with the hydrobionts of the lake Tsevlo. This word describes all the organisms, whose life is inextricably linked with water. It turned out that the lake silt and stems of aquatic plants are home to a variety of living things, some of which can only be seen with the help of a microscope. The participants of the camp have mastered the useful skill - work with a map: the determination of the sides of the world, the scale, the individual objects of the terrain, the construction of the route. Rainy weather made an amendment to the practical development of another topic: instead of making medicinal plants herbarium, the children got acquainted with the places of their growth and the peculiarities of the action of biologically active substances giving plants poisonous or medicinal properties. The employee of the scientific department of the reserve Oscar Saifullin, accompanying the group to the tent camp, shared with the participants the intricacies of observing the wildlife: even on the stretch of the road a few kilometers an experienced observer will notice many traces left by forest and water inhabitants!
Not a single day was spent without games and creative issues. The last night in the tent camp fell on the night of Ivan Kupala. The head and young visitors of the Tsevlo Village Club prepared for the guests an evening program of traditional Russian amusements and rituals. On the last day the participants of the hike summed up everything they had seen, learned and felt, having written down their brightest memories on a group poster. All the young explorers of Polistovie received memorable prizes from the reserve.
