Polistovsky National Nature Reserve joined WLI
Polistovsky Reserve joined the Wetland Link International (WLI) programme - a global network of wetland education centres. The network defines a wetland education centre as, ‘any wetland where there is interaction between people and wildlife and CEPA (communications, education and public awareness) activity occurs in support of wetland conservation aims’.
Polistovsky Reserve as an organisation actively developing ecological tourism, organising excursions on ecotrails and also working in ecological education and interpretation with educational organisation and with the general public, has taken a worthy place among the 350 wetland educational centers all over the world.
WLI objectives include: advocating for, and assisting in the development of new wetland education centres and their associated programmes throughout the world, improving the effectiveness of operations at existing ones, and also lobbying for the greater inclusion of CEPA programmes within wetlands and related conservation initiatives and instruments, and to support the development of frameworks for subsequent implementation at national, regional and global levels.
The WLI network is endorsed by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (through a memorandum of understanding) and coordinated by Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT), UK.
