January 11- Winter program "Rodnik"

Winter program "Rodnik"

From the 4th to the 8th of January an eco-educational program "Rodnik" organized by Polistovsky Reserve’s Friends Club took place in Tsevlo village. 16 children who live in Tsevlo, and came there for New Year holidays from Krasny Luch village, Bezhanitsy, Velikie Luki, Pskov and St. Petersburg took part in the program.

Each day of the program was devoted to a specific topic: wonderful phenomena of nature, magic of water, birds and animals of our native land, and included a variety of activities. On the first day participants became acquainted with each other in a fun interactive way: they tried themselves as journalists, painted self-portraits and their expectations. Next participants were delivered amazing experiments, revealing the properties of sunlight and water, fire and air, and the formation of rain clouds. The day ended with an intellectual quiz based on Polistovsky Reserve ecological trail "By the beaver’s path."

The following days of the winter "Rodnik" were also informative and interesting. Participants got acquainted with the birds that spend winter near Tsevlo village, and learned how to help our feathered friends to survive in harsh winter months. They also learned to read stories that animals left on the white blanket of snow, as well as to keep a diary of observations of the weather.

Some methodical materials of Galina Yegorovna Ivanova (geography teacher of Tsevlo School) were used to prepare activities for the program participants. A student of Bezhanitsy School Anna Zakharova also provided invaluable assistance in the activities of the program, and she became a photographer for "Rodnik" program.

Winter program was filled with a variety of games and creative workshops. Participants learned to make crafts of paper in origami-style, draw on eco-bags, and make bird feeders of milk packets. At the final meeting all the participants successfully coped with the issues of an environmental game "Khranitely" and received gifts from Polistovsky Reserve, which will help them to continue learning mysteries of nature and to conduct their own observations. We are looking forward to meet together with friends of protected lands again!

Polistovsky Reserve’s Friends Club expresses sincere gratitude to methodologist of Tsevlo village club Nadezhda Nikiforova and librarian Nadezhda Illarionova for assistance in organizing "Rodnik" program.
