World Animal Day
World Animal Day is celebrated annually on the 4th of October. It was established in 1931 in Florence at a convention of ecologists who wished to highlight the plight of endangered species.
In Russia this holiday is celebrated since 2000, it is intended to draw public attention to the problems of animals, especially in the preservation of rare species.
Every year in many countries around the world various mass actions are held on the World Animal Day.
Polistovsky National Nature Reserve also organizes events dedicated to this date. Interactive lessons "Winter life of animals" will be held in schools of Bezhanitsky and Loknyansky districts in October. On these lessons students will learn about how the inhabitants of the Polistovsky reserve spend winter: how they change their fur, where do they live, how do they find food and much more.
Also, from the 20th of September to the 16th of November Polistovsky Reserve holds a contest of applications in the art of paper mosaics "They have to live!", dedicated to rare, endangered animals listed in the Red Book of Russia.
