Grass fire is extinguished in the buffer zone of Polistovsky Reserve
Last week, on the 29th of March, state inspectors of Polistovsky Reserve extinguished dry grass burning in the Reserve’s buffer zone in Bezhanitsky district.
Fire was detected during the environmental raid on the 29th of March. The grass fire started outside the protected area, but it spread quickly and affected buffer zone of the Reserve in Nesvino area.
After detecting a fire, the Reserve’s vehicles were immediately sent to the site. The fire was inspected using a quadcopter, and 9 state inspectors began to extinguish it. They were able to localize and extinguish the fire within an hour.
This is the first fire in the protected area after the snow melted. During the firefighting, fire extinguishing coordination and practical firefighting skills were trained. Thanks to the professional actions of the Reserve’s staff, the fire was extinguished quickly.
We remind that dry grass burnings harms nature: grass seeds, insects, small animals and bird nests die in fire. In addition, the burning of dry vegetation is prohibited by law in the Russian Federation.
