Great to be a volunteer!
On the 30th of January, 2019, employees of the Department of Environmental Education and Tourism of Polistovsky Reserve spoke at the regional conference "Great to be a volunteer!". The event was dedicated to the results of the Year of the Volunteer in the libraries of Pskov region.
The staff of the Reserve shared their experience in involvement of volunteers in various activities. Volunteering on protectedm areas has been going on for many years, new programs and opportunities regularly appear. Last year volunteers were taking photographs, helping with landscaping, organizing environmental education events and working in other fields in Polistovsky Reserve. Every year, volunteeing on PAs attracts people of different ages from various countries and cities.
"I am always glad that there are people who are interested in such activities and who are willing to devote free time and energy to good deeds," told Elena Perova, deputy director on environmental education, interpretation and tourism of Polistovsky Reserve.
Heads of libraries from municipalities of Pskov region, a representative of the al-Russian public movement "Victory Volunteers", employees of the Coordination and Local Studies Department of the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library also spoke at the event.
The participants of the conference told about the work done in the past year and the experience of developing volunteering in rural and urban libraries. Most often, local children aged 12 to 16 years become volunteers in rural libraries. They help elder people, organize Saturday work days in their village, conduct environmental education games and activities. The speakers noted the great social significance of the events held in the Year of the Volunteer. Following the results of this work, prospects for the further development of the volunteer movement were outlined.
The organizers of the conference were "Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library" and "Intersettlement Library Association" of Loknyansky district.
