A bear walked along the ecotrail “By the beaver's path”
On Monday, the 19th of November, a group of tourists met bear traces on the ecotail "By the Beaver's Path". Based on the size, they belong to a small but adult animal. The bear walked along the trail a day or two before the excursion, but, thanks to the snow, its traces remained.
In addition to the bear traces, traces of beavers and wolves (predators hunting them) were found there. The bear can also hunt beavers, but this time his trail did not reach the hut: after passing along the decking, the bear went away.
Another trail of a bear was noticed by employees of the Reserve in another part of the protected area in Bezhanitsky district. The find was also made due to the recent snowfall. Usually, when the air temperature drops below 0°C and snow cover is established, the bears hibernate. May be the owners of the traces were going towards their dens.
The wooden decking on the ecological routes of the Reserve is used not only by tourists, but also by the inhabitants of Polistovsky. Often you can see traces of raccoon dogs and foxes on the trails, bear traces are rare. Ungulates usually do not use the decking, but many traces of moose crossing ecotrails are found in the Reserve all the time.
Conflicts between wild animals and tourists never happened in Polistovsky Reserve, the animals can feel approaching people in advance and prefer to hide.
