Workshop for teachers "Environmental education and cooperation with protected areas"
From the 19th to the 21st of October, an annual seminar “Environmental education and cooperation with PAs” was held on the basis of Polistovsky Reserve in the village of Gogolevo. The event was attended by 18 teachers from Pskov region, Veliky Novgorod, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The workshop was aimed at the exchange of experience between employees of educational institutions and was mostly practical. Teachers talked about their approaches to environmental education and discussed the possibilities of interaction with protected areas, including the example of Polistovsky Reserve.
On the first day, Ludmila Atamanova from the State Darwin Museum spoke at the workshop about interactive activities with children that are held on the basis of the museum: educational programs and environmental games (including online).
Svetlana Kirillova and Olga Lagutenko, experts of the ecological and biological center "Krestovsky Island", also shared their experience. Svetlana spoke about aquarism and conducted a master class on arranging an aquarium. Olga made a presentation on excursions into nature as a method of environmental education and led practical techniques for working with children in nature, on excursions, before and after them.
During the excursion part of the event, participants visited the ecological trail of Polistovsky Reserve “By the Beaver’s path” - one of the most popular among children's groups.
At the end of the workshop, participants spoke about their work and cooperation with protected areas: school environmental actions, expeditions and hiking trips, visits to nature reserves and national parks, methods of environmental education with preschoolers, even creation of ecological trails in kindergartens.
According to the participants of the workshop, it is very important for the ecological educator to convey information to the listener accurately, without distortion and at the same time in an interesting and clear form. To do this, you need to use a variety of methods, focus on the audience, select the optimal forms of interaction with the younger generation, depending on the situation. Such workshops are very helpful in this work, because specialists have an opportunity to come together and share experiences and ideas.
