Summer in the colors of the whole world
In the beginning of August Polistovsky Reserve was visited by trainees from the international youth organization AIESEC, participants of the Lesomania project implemented with the support of Leroy Merlin. For three days, young people from Colombia, Brazil, Egypt, Tunisia, the Czech Republic, Turkey, India, Pakistan, China, France and Spain were engaged in a variety of tasks, including household chores, organization of a play for children, and, of course, visiting ecological routes and getting acquainted with the Reserve’s nature.
During the first day the volunteers worked at the territory of Polistovsky Reserve’s guest house in the village of Gogolevo. Despite the fact that these activities were a novelty for most of them, trainees helped to prepare the territory for further gardening, as well as painted walls in the museum of village lifestyle.
The next day was dedicated to children. The evening before the trainees carefully prepared for the event, coming up with games and preparing a presentation on the theme of sustainable development in the world that is not easy for children. The endeavors were not in vain: instead of the planned three-hour program of the game, the conversation dragged on until late evening. This meeting was so bright, unusual and emotional! It showed children and adults how few borders between people are, despite the language barrier, different cultural and life experiences, if they are united by one goal - to make the world better and give joy to each other.
And, of course, an important part of the three-day program was acquaintance with Polistovsky nature, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of nature conservation in different countries. Every day the trainees learned about the protected areas system of our country, the forms of protected areas in Russia and the Reserve where they came from the presentations and conversations. Many of them were not familiar with the bog, and since the Polistovsky Reserve protects a part of the largest in Europe Polistovo-Lovatskaya raised bog system, the guests were first introduced with this ecosystem. Also, the volunteers traveled along the ecological route "By the beaver’s path" and the wild forest on the "Mossmen route". An equally interesting part of the program was acquaintance with nature protection activities in home countries of the trainees.
According to the guests and organizers of the AIESEC, the trip to the Reserve exceeded all expectations, and the world of untouched nature, the village coziness, joy and gratitude of the local children will remain in the hearts of the volunteers for a long time!
The administration of Polistovsky Reserve, in turn, thanks the trainees and project managers for the assistance provided, as well as the vivid emotions that prevailed throughout the time of the volunteer activities in Polistovsky. The Reserve staff hopes for further cooperation and will be glad to meet again!
