Children's ecological hike "Rodnik" in Polistovsky Reserve
In July, a children's ecological hike "Rodnik" was held in Polistovsky Reserve. The hike took place on the territory of the Reserve's buffer zone in Loknyansky district, and was attended by 17 schoolchildren from Bezhanitsky and Loknyansky districts, Pskov and Veliky Novgorod.
"Rodnik" hike is held annually and is aimed primarily at acquaintance of local children with Polistovsky nature. The participants of the hike conduct environmental and biological studies, observations, experiments and draw conclusions, and acquire skills of camping life.
This year the hike took place from the 7th to the 12th of July and started in the village of Gogolevo (Loknyansky district) for the first time. Under the guidance of Polistovsky volunteers-teachers, the children conducted a bioindication study using birch leaves, as well as a comprehensive study of the Hlavica River: they got acquainted with aquatic animals, observed the overgrowing of the river, determined the chemical composition and water quality in the settlement and in the buffer zone of the Reserve, measured the surface tension.
In their free time, the participants of the campaign played cognitive games from Polistovsky Reserve, participated in ecological master classes, learned to identify birds by their voices and feathers, got acquainted with the Russian protected areas system, watched films about nature open air. In addition, the schoolchildren visited two ecological routes of Polistovsky Reserve in the Loknyansky district: "Mossmen Route" and "By the Beaver's Path".
At the end of the hike participants prepared speeches during which they shared their impressions of the hike in creative form: read their own poems, painted posters and told what "Rodnik" had taught them.
Some children plan to continue the research begun in the framework of the hike, and then submit them to the regional scientific and practical conferences. So, in 2017 the participant of the hike "Rodnik" took the prize at the regional conference and spoke with her work at the All-Russian Forum of Scientific Youth "Step into Science" in Moscow.
The administration of Polistovsky Reserve thanks volunteers - Elena Zvereva, Irina Barkanova and Irina Vasilieva - for taking part in the hike "Rodnik".
