Volunteer May Day: Polistovsky Reserve was visited by volunteers
On the eve and during the weekend, timed to the May Day, the first volunteers in this year visited Polistovsky Reserve. Last week, a volunteer program on cleaning up the territory and beautification was held, and at the weekend the Reserve was visited by volunteers-photographers.
From the 24th to the 26th of April volunteers from among the employees, as well as the guest of Polistovsky Reserve from Pskov region were engaged in different activities. In the village of Gogolevo they did bautification work in a museum of village lifestyle: they painted furniture, cleaned other new exhibits. A lot of cleaning work was done on the cordon of the Reserve in Ruchi village, as well as in the area "Peski", where Polistovsky Reserve's route "From the bogs to the ocean" is taking place.
From the 28th of April to the 2nd of May Polistovsky was visited by a group of five volunteers-photographers and an artist who tried to capture the spring beauty of the protected area for all these days. The greatest attention was paid to the water birds photographing, because it's the bst time to observe them now, in May - during the migration back to the north and the beginning of the nesting period.
During the volunteer program they met and shot 5 species of waders, many anseriformes, gulls, several species of birds of prey. The most interesting "finds" were: large cormorants, smew, black kite, ruffs, osprey, white heron and great bittern. All these birds are found in Polistovsky Reserve, but rarely come across people.
In addition, during the time of the volunteer program many picturesque landscapes of the bog, blossoming plants and other inhabitants of the Reserve have been photographed, and even several pictures have been written.
All the volunteers of Polistovsky Reserve visited excursions to the ecological routes, introducing guests to various ecosystems of the protected area: bog, rivers, forest.
Following the results of the volunteer program for photographers, it is planned to organize a photo exhibition timed to the Year of the Volunteer in Russia.
